You have the option to pay GST through online or offline channels. Businesses are required to evaluate the applicable tax amount in cash, taking into account the offset of the input tax credit utilized. Subsequently, a GST challan must be generated before or after the login to the GST portal or during the GST return filing.

Procedure to pay GST

With Login

1. Access the https://www.gst.gov.in/ URL. The GST Home page is displayed.

2. Login to the GST Portal with valid credentials.

3. Go to Services>>Payments>>Create Challan. Select an applicable option and click PROCEED.

4. Fill in the amounts, select the payment mode, and click GENERATE CHALLAN.

5. Challan details will be displayed. You can pay GST immediately or access this challan from Challan history.
For payment, select the mode of payment, and bank name and check the terms and conditions box. The click MAKE PAYMENT.

6. This will direct you to the respective bank’s website. You can make payments through net banking, Credit /Debit card or UPI.

In the case of Over the Counter

  1. In the Payment Modes option, select the Over the Counter as payment mode.
  2. Select the Name of the Bank where cash or instrument is proposed to be deposited.
  3. Select the type of instrument as Cash/ Cheque/ Demand Draft.
  4. Click the GENERATE CHALLAN button.
  5. Take a printout of the Challan and visit the selected Bank.
  6. Pay using Cash/ Cheque/ Demand Draft within the Challan’s validity period.
  7. Payment status will be updated on the GST Portal after confirmation from the Bank.

In the case of NEFT/ RTGS

  1. In the Payment Modes option, select the NEFT/RTGS as payment mode.
  2. In the Remitting Bank drop-down list, select the name of the remitting bank.
  3. Click the GENERATE CHALLAN button.
  4. Take a printout of the Challan and visit the selected Bank. Mandate forms will also be generated simultaneously.
  5. Pay using a Cheque through your account with the selected Bank/ Branch. You can also pay using the account debit facility.
  6. The Bank will process the transaction and RBI shall confirm the same within
  7. Once you receive the Unique Transaction Number (UTR) on your registered e-mail or mobile number, you can link the UTR with the NEFT/RTGS CPIN on the GST Portal. Go to Challan History and click the CPIN link. Enter the UTR and link it with the NEFT/RTGS payment.
  8. Payment status will be updated on the GST Portal after confirmation from the Bank.
  9. The payment will be updated in the Electronic Cash Ledger in respective minor/major heads.

Without Login

You can pay the GST without logging in to the GST portal.

1. Go to https://www.gst.gov.in/

2. Click SERVICES>>Payments>>Create challan.

4. The remaining procedure is same as payment through login.
