Now GST can be paid using Credit card, Debit Card and UPI

GSTN issued an advisory on 19th January 2024 that two new payment facilities have now been provided under e-payment in addition to net banking. The two new methods are Cards and Unified Payments Interface (UPI). So, now GST can be paid using credit card and UPI too!

As per the advisory dated 19th January 2024, to facilitate the taxpayer registered under GST with more methods of payment, two new facilities of payment have now been provided under e-payment in addition to net banking. The two new methods are Cards and Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Cards facility includes Credit Card (CC) and Debit Card (DC) namely Mastercard, Visa, RuPay, and Diners(CC only) issued by any Indian bank. Payment through CC/DC/UPI can be made through Kotak Mahindra Bank irrespective of CC/DC issued by any Indian bank. Other banks are in the process of integration. Currently, the facility is available in 10 states and the remaining states are expected to join soon.

Steps for GST payment using cards/UPI

  • Select reason and click PROCEED.

  • Enter the amount, check the E-Payment option, and click GENERATE CHALLAN.

  • For Credit/ Debit cards, check the “Credit/Debit Card” option, select Kotak Mahindra Bank, check terms and conditions, and click MAKE PAYMENT.

  • Enter Mobile number and email ID. You can skip this step.

  • Enter card details and click “Make payment”.

  • For payment using UPI, check BHIM UPI, select Kotak Mahindra Bank, check terms and conditions, and click MAKE PAYMENT.

  • You will receive a UPI request for payment of such an amount. You can pay it from the respective UPI app. Such payment should be made within 5 minutes otherwise the session will expire. Once you make the payment, the screen will be automatically refreshed and a challan will be generated.
